The Two Week Manicure

When my friend Ellie came to see me, she thrust her hand in front of me and declared, "two weeks!"

I looked at a nicely manicured hand and asked, "What? What do you mean, 'two weeks'?"

She told me she had a manicure two weeks ago.  Two weeks ago.

Not possible.  I looked at her hands closely.  I could see that her nails were perfectly polished, except for the slight growth near her cuticles.

A two week manicure?  Now, that is truly a nugget.
I have a confession to make. I hate having my nails done.

I know it is a female pastime to get manicures, but not for me. I can't stand sitting there. I get impatient. I get fidgety. I don't want to make conversation, but I don't want to sit in silence. It's creepy. I just want to jump up and bolt.

But I love the end result.  I love the ultra feminine look of clean, shaped, polished nails.

Unfortunately, my manicures only last about four to five days. Then the polish chips and I'm back to square one. (or oval one, as the case may be....)

So when Ellie told me her secret to the two week manicure, I thought I had struck gold.

I immediately went on www.Amazon.com and ordered a bottle of the golden two week manicure cure.

It's called Healthy Hoof Lacquer. And it's less than $4 a bottle!

I had to try it myself before I could tell you about it. So I took one for the team and went up to my local nail salon and subjected myself to a $15 manicure. I selected a light, natural nail polish. Then I went home and put just one coat of the Healthy Hoof Lacquer over each of my freshly painted talons.

And I waited.

My hands were in and out of water. I was not careful about my nails at all.  I didn't work out in the fields, or put a new roof on the house, but I did scrub bathtubs and other normal chores. Plus, I am a compulsive hand washer.

After ten days, yes, I said ten days, I could see that the index finger of my right hand was starting to chip just the tiniest bit on the tip. I added a coat of Healthy Hoof Lacquer just to that fingernail.

After two weeks, every single fingernail, except for the two index fingers, are still perfectly manicured. The two index fingers were quickly fixed by removing the old polish, adding a coat or two of new polish, and one coat of Healthy Hoof Lacquer. Easily a repair I could do myself.

This stuff is different from anything else I have ever used.
It seems a bit thicker than regular topcoat and is much harder. It is literally like liquid glass for your nails.

If you "Google" Healthy Hoof Lacquer, you'll find many retailers who sell it at prices from $2.39-$4.00. Since it is so inexpensive, the shipping can be more than the product! You may want to buy a few bottles and give them to friends (be sure to tell them you heard about it on Annie's Nuggets!).

Or..... you could give a bottle to your favorite nail tech. If I went someplace for a manicure and it lasted two weeks, I would definitely become a repeat customer.

Well, maybe I wouldn't.......

  1. Ellie's been holding out on me! I too am a victim of five day manicures, although I recently had a manicure that lasted 7 days. Two weeks would be great! I will def give this a try. Terry

  2. Thanks Annie,

This is a great suggestion. Actually I remember hearing about this stuff, (which is for horses originally I think); it also helps difficult nails to grow!

  3. Ladies, if you are using OPI on your NATURAL Nails then you length of time of a manicure is going to be cut short. OPI polishes are for Artificial Nails of ALL Types. Use China Glaze Polish, it will the beating your nails do, as a Nurse with Natural Nails I take a beating with my hands, and get nearly 2 weeks out of my manicure done at salon. I provide my own files, cutters, and polish. I then at least know where my implements have been, and just carry a little plastic makeup bag in with me with the new polish I am going to use! Hope this helps
