Farrah Hair

Hair styles come, hair styles go.

Sometimes it's fashionable to have short swingy hair. Other times it's "in" to have long, layered hair.

From Farrah to Dorothy Hamill, Jennifer Aniston to Jennifer Lopez, all popular hair styles have one trait in common-- thick hair.

When I was in high school, there was a beautiful girl named Gail who wore a "fall" every day. (For those of you born after 1975, a "fall" was the precursor to hair extensions.) I must say I was envious. I had (have) the same hair I was born with, flat, thin, baby fine hair. Gail did too, but all she had to do was attach that fall and she suddenly had long, thick hair.

Since I was old enough to read beauty magazines, I have looked for products that would make my hair feel and look thicker. I have tried hundreds of "thickening" products, expensive products in specialty salons and inexpensive drugstore products. They all weighed down my hair and made it seem dirty, sticky, flyaway and/or dull.

So I went to work mining, I mean, researching.  I read tons of reviews.  I tried more products. And I believe I have finally found something that will give Gail a run for her money.

This amazing product is Redken Extreme CAT Protein Restructuring Treatment.  It's a long name, but the short of it is, it works. The Redken website says it "helps strengthen distressed hair without adding weight." So if you are blessed with thick hair, but it is distressed, it may be a miracle product for you, too.

Before we go any further, I must admit that I stumbled on the remarkable results of this product by accident.

I was very impressed by hundreds of positive reviews, so I bought it.  But I didn't read the instructions, which said to spray it on, and then rinse it out. I sprayed it on, left it on, and dried my hair.

My hair seemed twice as thick.  Could I have actually found a product that thickened my hair without weighing it down?

As I said, the instructions say to rinse after a few minutes.  Maybe that works if you have "good" hair and just need a little strengthening.  Drastic results call for drastic measures, so if you want your hair to be thicker, my advice is to leave it in.

You can find it at drugstores that carry Redken, or go to www.Redken.com and look for a salon that carries their products.  I bought it at CVS for around $18.00.

No one is going to name the next hot hair style "The Annie," but I am quite happy.
